This paper explores the current crime trends in our jurisdiction. It examines the type, frequency and severity of crimes that are occurring and looking for any common themes or patterns that may emerge. The data used is provided by local law enforcement agencies and covers a three-year period from 2014 to 2017.
The results show that property crimes such as burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson were the most frequently reported across all three years, accounting for approximately two thirds of all incidents. Violent offences such as assault, robbery and homicide were much less frequent but still represented a significant portion of overall crime activity. In terms of frequency there was no clear trend over time with an overall increase one year followed by a decrease the next.
Looking at the geographical distribution of crime, most offences were concentrated in certain parts of the jurisdiction, with particular hotspots for each type of crime. For example, burglary and larceny incidents were most common in urban areas while arson was more prevalent in rural districts.
In conclusion, the data reveals that certain types of crimes are more frequent than others and have a higher concentration in certain geographical locations. To reduce criminal activity it is important that law enforcement and other government agencies take an evidence-based approach to target their efforts to ensure they are addressing the right issues and making maximum use of available resources. Furthermore, they should consider developing strategies taking into account local conditions or any potential changes to criminal trends over time. By doing so they can work towards reducing levels of crime and improving community safety.
